Forbes List out 10 artists that will be Hip-Hop’s Future Moguls, see List.
Forbes who earlier this week released the list of highest paid artists, has returned to give us its a list of hip-hop’s future moguls. Personally, we’re excited to see a variety of names and personalities in the mix. This list includes;
First up on the list is breakout songstress Cardi B. Her single “Bodak Yellow” brought her many accolades in 2017, including becoming the first song by a solo female rapper to top the US charts in 19 years.
The track raked in more than 400 million streams, making it the fifth highest streamed song of the year. She’s continued the winning streak with track “Bartier Cardi” featuring listmate 21 Savage and featured verses on G-Eazy’s “No Limit” and “Motorsport” alongside Migos and Nicki Minaj.
Next on the list is Post Malone, who after dodging some awkward headlines surrounding his feelings about hip-hop, championed to make a successful year of 2017. The Syracuse, NY-born rapper-singer’s album Stoney moved more than the equivalent of 1.5 million units in 2017, which Forbes points out, is the best among all recent hip-hop releases, excluding Drake’s More Life and Kendrick Lamar’s Damn.
Understandably, Tyler theCreator comes up next on the list for a hugely successful 2017. The release of his fourth studio album, Scum Fuck Flower Boy, was received with rave reviews from critics and fans alike. His work with Converse in recent months has as well brought the young artist’s career to new heights. As such, some could argue, he’ll likely have one of the most prosperous and long-lived careers of his fellow listmates.
One of the more happily unexpected names on the list is Playboi Carti. The Atlanta, Georgia rapper released one of 2017’s hottest summer hits with “Woke Up Like Dis” and then accomplished it again with the breakout hit,”Magnolia.”
The track garnered more than 150 million Spotify spins, allowing his self-titled début album to reach No. 12 on Billboard’s charts. Carti continues strategic investments within his career by embarking on partnerships with the likes adidas for a video campaign that reportedly earned him an estimated six-figure payout.
Dave East still may be an underground name in terms of chart-topping hits, but his presence in the hip-hop industry is felt all around. The Harlem-born rapper recently toured with Jay-Z in promotion of his album Paranoia 2, which was released in January. If Forbe’s forecasting has any teeth, we’ll definitely see more from the rapper in the months to come.
Lizzo is one of three female rappers to make the list, standing alongside Cardi B and WondaGurl for good reason. Lizzo’s career took off with the release of 2016’s Coconut Oil EP, which featured the feel-good track, “Good As Hell.” The track raked in 10 million streams on Spotify with its uplifting femme-centric appeal.
A favourite among the new generation of hip-hop artists with socially driven and philanthropic intentions, Vic Mensa finds himself on the list as well. Mensa isn’t shy with his voice, using it on many occasions to speak out on police brutality and race relations in the US, and even making his way to protests furthering the same messages.
Standout tracks such as “There’s Alot Going On” and “OMG” featuring Pusha T do a great job of illustrating the Chicago rapper’s style.
Without a doubt, one of the more controversial names on the list belongs to that of Lil Pump. The 17-year-old rapper is one of a handful to make huge carer leaps in 2017 from SoundCloud rapper to household name. Naturally, it’s all due to his smash hit “Gucci Gang,” which quickly soared to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The accompanying video for the track has as well reached well-over 400 million views since its October 2017 release.
21 Savage is among a slew of rising stars who have been able to keep hold of breakout success due to mixtape releases. Known for his 2015 releases The Slaughter Tape and Slaughter King, 21 continued the success by unveiling Savage Mode in 2016 along with super-producer Metro Boomin and Issa Album in 2017– all were well-received and still in rotation to this day.
WondaGurl’s presence in the hip-hop world isn’t on the mic, but instead, the mixing boards. The producer is responsible for many of today’s hottest tracks, including Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money,” Travis Scott’s “90210,” Lil Uzi Vert’s “Scott and Ramona” and Lil Yachty’s “Lady in Yellow” among many, many more.
